Lakehouse has successfully delivered a large scale extension to Redbridge College, located in Little Heath, Essex.
The £4.9m design and build project included the construction of a new two storey classroom block, college entrance and specialist performance space. The total new floorspace constructed covers almost 2,500m2 and the project was completed in partnership with architects Ayre Chamberlain Gaunt.
The new teaching block provides flexible teaching space and echoes the style and form of existing campus structures, ensuring a coherent college identity. The performance space, nicknamed ‘The Box’, is an acoustically treated performance area, with viewing facilities and music production rooms. It is connected to the existing College building via a glazed link structure and includes teaching spaces and a 264 retractable seating space in the theatre, making it suitable for performances, enrolment, exhibitions and gatherings.
Site Manager Duncan Ferreira was awarded a Lakehouse Customer Service Award following his team’s positive contribution on site. The location of the College, which is close to a high number of vulnerable local residents, meant that site safety was of paramount importance. Site operatives focused on keeping the site safe and clean, as well as involving themselves positively with the local community.
The Considerate Constructors Scheme Monitor commented “An impressive performance, as usual, for this contractor.”
